Heritage
Tourism, Ecotourism, Indigenous Tourism and
other niche sectors often operate on a small
to medium scale and often in remote areas. How
do you break through into the consumer market
at a national and global level? Obtain
the latest knowledge and trends in consumer
behaviour.
The
focus will be on consumer research, the latest
on tourism branding, marketing and promotion
that works for this sector. Participants will
hear of trends and insights into market leading
initiatives in domestic, international and niche
marketing. Distribution and particularly on-line
marketing will be featured.
This
highly dynamic field is changing at an extraordinary
pace with the emergence of new communication
technology, new personal communication tools
and patterns of researching and buying travel.
International and national marketing, technology
and distribution leaders will provide insights
into the latest trends, technology and tools
suitbale for the eco sector. |

|
| Indigenous
Tourism Development |
|
There
are significant alignments between sustainable
tourism, ecotourism, heritage tourism and indigenous
tourism development. Drawing on global examples
this Theme Stream will examine the opportunities,
tools and methods of building indigenous business
opportunities in the tourism industry. Delegates
will have the opportunity to view innovative
case studies and to create new networks with
leading players in the industry. This Theme
Stream is designed to be applied, practical
and content rich. |
| |
|
| Sustainability
and Climate Change |
|
Sustainability
is at the forefront of this sector, but importantly,
the entire tourism industry is now examining
its role in sustainability. Sustainability and
Climate Change are now mainstream issues for
government, industry and communities alike.
Tourism
as an industry is highly exposed to the impacts
of Climate Change. Many of the climate hotspots
are critical tourism destinations - reefs, wetlands,
alpine, coasts and islands. The focus will be
responding to climate change - what is the consumer
demanding? What practical responses can tourism
operators take? How can the negatives of climate
change be turned onto business and environmental
gains?
This
Theme Stream will examine the latest global
trends and case studies. |
| |
|
| Technology |
|
Innovative
design and technology in the areas of water
use, waste treatment and in particular the use
of alternative energies such as solar power
feature in the Technology Theme Stream. The
focus will be on small to medium scale use and
remote regions. This stream will be presented
in the field at various locations in Alice Springs.
This travelling workshop will give delegates
the opportunity to explore innovative technology
implementation and research in real time. Field
trip examples will be supplemented by an array
of Asia-Pacific examples of innovative technology
applications for tourism enterprises. |
| |
|
| Tourism
and Protection Through Partnerships |
|
| Many
innovative partnerships have been developed over
the years to preserve communities, cultural, natural
and heritage sites. How are these partnerships
developed, what procedures are put into place
to protect the environment and what role does
tourism play in this? |
| |
| Tourism
in Protected Areas |
|
| At
no time has there been a greater focus on the
role tourism can play in sustainability and conservation.
Beyond the direct sectoral interest of ecotourism,
tourism in protected areas includes interactions
with many tourism sectors. Public and private
protected area tourism, fauna parks, innovative
partnerships and best practice sustainability
all have a place in the agenda of the Theme Stream. |
