Global Eco 2011 sees the introduction of the ASEAN
and OCEANIA Tourism Forum. This forum features
ASEAN and OCEANIA tourism and will examine issues
such as: achieving co-operation between ASEAN and
OCEANIAN destinations without diluting diversity
and richness of natural and cultural experiences;
community involvement in ecotourism; achieving higher
yield through ecotourism; conservation through ecotourism;
and; quality and certification. Applied case studies
will be used to exemplify ecotourism excellence
with the ASEAN and OCEANIA region.
Ecotourism in ASEAN and OCEANIAN countries is emerging
at an immense rate. The importance of sustainability
and the potential of ecotourism to contribute to
a sustainable economy is gaining significant momentum.
However there is a fine balance to be achieved between
development and sustainability and authenticity.
This forum will focus ways to achieve a competitive
edge whilst preserving nature and people’s
lifestyles and communities.
An initiative of Global Eco 2010 was the signing
of a Memorandum of Understanding
between the Royal Kingdom of Cambodia Ministry of
Tourism and Ecotourism Australia, to formalise the
ongoing relationship and further facilitate the
development of ecotourism and sustainable tourism
certification in Cambodia through support, mentoring
and training. There is a desire to link with all
ASEAN and OCEANIAN countries in the betterment of
ecotourism in this amazingly diverse and rich region.
ASEAN countries encompass: Indonesia, Malaysia,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam,
Vietnam, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Cambodia.
OCEANIAN
countries encompass: Australia, Fiji, Kiribati,
Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia,
Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa,
Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
However,
the forum is not limited to these countries.
The
Forum is held on Monday 7 November
2011 and features keynote speakers
and case study examples including plenty of discussion
time for delegates to interact with speakers and
take home tangible resources. The Forum is open
for anyone to attend, registration for the
